Killer Camera and Lens Rebates from Nikon

Looks like Nikon is already pushing some killer rebates on its cameras and lenses. The new rebate program that B&H calls “The More You Buy The More You Save” is a camera + lens rebate program, which allows you to buy one camera and as many lenses as you want, stacking up savings with more lenses. While this means that you have to purchase at least one camera to qualify for additional lens rebates, some lens rebates are significant and were not part of any rebates in the past (like the new Nikon 70-200mm f/4G VR lens that I reviewed earlier this year). So this will be a great program for those that want to buy a new DSLR or want a backup camera. Most Nikon DSLRs take part in this program, including the D7100, D800 and D4. Existing savings on the D7100 and D800 cameras are retained, so these discounts apply on top of those.

Nikon More Buy More Save Rebate

Here is a list of all cameras and lenses offered in the rebate, along with the savings:

  1. Nikon D3100 ($100 off)
  2. Nikon D3200 ($100 off)
  3. Nikon D5100 ($100 off)
  4. Nikon D5200
  5. Nikon D7000 ($100 off)
  6. Nikon D7100 ($100 off kit)
  7. Nikon D600 ($100 off)
  8. Nikon D800 ($200 off)
  9. Nikon D4

And here are the lenses with speedlights:

  1. Nikon 28mm f/1.8G ($100 off)
  2. Nikon 50mm f/1.8G ($20 off)
  3. Nikon 85mm f/3.5G DX ($100 off)
  4. Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G VR II DX ($250 off)
  5. Nikon 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G VR DX ($300 off)
  6. Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ($200 off)
  7. Nikon 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G VR ($100 off)
  8. Nikon 24-120mm f/4G VR ($300 off)
  9. Nikon 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G VR ($150 off)
  10. Nikon 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR DX ($150 off)
  11. Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G VR II ($300 off)
  12. Nikon 70-200mm f/4G ($300 off)
  13. Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G VR ($200 off)
  14. Nikon SB-700 ($30 off)
  15. Nikon SB-910 ($50 off)

So if you buy the Nikon D800 for $2796 ($200 off, regularly priced at $2996) and add the Nikon 70-200mm f/4G for $1096 ($300 off, regularly priced $1396) with the Nikon 28mm f/1.8G for $596 ($100 off, regularly priced $696), you are looking at a total of $600 of savings from this bundle. The nice thing is, you can stack up as many lenses as offered in the rebate and you can even stack the same lens multiple times! So if a friend of yours wants to buy a lens and does not want a camera body, you can buy one camera and multiple lenses, which will all be discounted as shown above. There is no limit on the number of lenses you can buy.

Just like before, here is a quick summary of what I think about the above lenses:

  1. Nikon 28mm f/1.8G: a good lens with a couple of weaknesses such as focus shift and field curvature (normal for a wide angle zoom). Good buy at $600, considering that the wider/faster 24mm f/1.4G is more than 3x times more expensive. See my review here.
  2. Nikon 50mm f/1.8G: the best 50mm AF prime from Nikon today. See my review here and wedding photography sample images.
  3. Nikon 85mm f/3.5G DX: a great macro lens for DX, good buy at $426 for those that like to shoot macro. Used it in the past, but have not had a chance to review it yet.
  4. Nikon 18-200mm VR: never been a fan of superzoom lenses, but people love these and they will love them more at $546.
  5. Nikon 18-300mm VR: another superzoom that is a little more expensive than the 18-200mm at $696. Too massive for DX, not something I would recommend. If you need a superzoom for DX, get the 18-200mm instead. See my review here.
  6. Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G: a superb lens for working pros. I have two of them now, since I use the 24-70mm a lot for landscape photography. See my review here.
  7. Nikon 24-85mm VR: a good wide to mid-range zoom for the D600. See my review here.
  8. Nikon 24-120mm VR: once you read my review, you will realize why I love this lens. If you do not need the durability of the 24-70mm, this is the lens you want. And with the $300 discount, this is a really sweet deal!
  9. Nikon 28-300mm VR: yet another superzoom for FX, with a $150 discount. See my review here.
  10. Nikon 55-300mm VR: an average DX telephoto lens. A good price, but I would rather get the 70-300mm VR below. See my review here.
  11. Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G VR II: killer lens if you don’t mind its weight. Love mine, but I wish I waited for this $300 off deal, since I bought it as soon as it was announced. See my review from a while ago here.
  12. Nikon 70-200mm f/4G: first time this lens goes on a great sale like this. The announced MSRP price was $1399 and now there is a $300 discount, bringing the price down to $1099. Now we are talking! I love this lens for its superb performance and light weight construction – see my review where I rave about it here.
  13. Nikon 70-300mm VR: if you can’t afford the 70-200mm lenses and need the reach, get this telephoto lens. It usually sells for $600 and this rebate brings it down to mere $400, which is a steal! See my review here.
  14. Nikon SB-700 and SB-910: $30 and $50 off are pretty bad rebates. You could have gotten a much better discount if you bought it earlier. If you want a speedlight, wait till the end of the year for better incentives.
